Good morning, Hudson. It's World Maritime Day, which lands a little differently in a town that grew up on the water. The weather is playing along too. There is no rain chance in the forecast for the next five days, starting with 89 today and easing into the mid-80s over the weekend, with Saturday's low down at 66. That is the first real run of dry days we have had in a while.

Pasco has declared a local state of emergency over dengue fever. The county has two locally acquired cases, while Hillsborough next door has 134 of the 152 counted statewide, and the order mostly clears red tape so mosquito control can move faster. The thing being asked of you is small: empty anything in the yard that is holding water. Separately, the county has raised the income ceiling on the Better Future program, which pays to repair storm-damaged homes, so a good many households that did not qualify before now do.

The county has declared a local state of emergency over dengue fever. It runs seven days and can be lifted sooner, and what it mainly does is let officials skip the usual purchasing and permitting steps so mosquito control can move quickly. Pasco has two locally acquired cases. Hillsborough, next door, has 134 of the 152 counted statewide this year. The ask for residents is the ordinary one: tip out anything holding water once a week, cover up outdoors, and call Mosquito Control at 727-376-4568 about a problem area.

More households now qualify for storm repair money

Pasco has raised the income ceiling on its Better Future Individual Housing Program, which helps repair, rebuild or replace homes damaged by Hurricanes Idalia, Helene and Milton. The cutoff moves to 120 percent of area median income, which is $96,360 for a one-person household and $137,640 for a household of four.
