Inside Hudson, Issue #25
September 26, 2026
Good morning, Hudson. It's National Hunting and Fishing Day, which the calendar puts on the last Saturday of the month and which lands well in a town where half the driveways have a boat on them. The weather is cooperating: 83 today with a low of 65 overnight, the coolest night in the five-day, and dry straight through Monday before storms edge back Tuesday.
Pasco now has a third locally acquired case of dengue, up from two at midweek, and all three Tampa Bay counties are still under emergency orders. Nothing about that changes what you do, which is to empty whatever is holding water in the yard. On a cheerier note, the county wants homeowners to know there is rebate money on six different pieces of a sprinkler system, from $3 a capped head up to $100 for a weather-based controller, as long as you are on potable water rather than reclaimed.
Chello Hollyday plays Sam's Hudson Beach Bar at 6 tonight, and Dented Keg runs day two of its Oktoberfest from noon. Tomorrow is the one to plan for: Diecastarama brings a room full of diecast vendors to the VFW on Drayton Street from 10:30 to 1:30, and that post is in Shady Hills, so it is close to home. Go find the one you had as a kid.

Pasco has a third dengue case
Pasco News (FB Page)
The Florida Department of Health in Pasco County has confirmed a third locally acquired case of dengue, up from two earlier in the week, and says it is working with Pasco County Mosquito Control on the response. All three Tampa Bay counties are still under seven-day emergency orders, and the statewide count of locally acquired cases is now around 190. The advice has not changed: tip out anything holding water, cover up outdoors, and use a repellent with DEET, Picaridin, IR3535 or oil of lemon eucalyptus. Health officials say to get emergency care for severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, bleeding gums or trouble breathing.

Six different sprinkler rebates, if you are on potable water
Pasco County Government (FB Page)
The county is pointing homeowners at the Tampa Bay Water Wise rebate program, and the list is longer than most people realize. It pays $5 per high-efficiency rotary nozzle, $10 per pressure-regulated spray body, $3 per capped head, $50 for a rain sensor, up to $100 for a system evaluation, and $100 for a weather-based controller, that last one limited to one per home for life. The catch is worth knowing before you plan a Saturday around it: only single-family homes on potable water qualify, so reclaimed, well and pond water customers are out. The work has to be done by a licensed contractor from the approved list, and you file online with the receipt and a utility bill.

A storm recovery program for businesses and nonprofits, due in October
Pasco County Government (FB Page)
Pasco has announced a Small Business and Non-Profit Recovery Program under the same Better Future initiative that runs the housing repair money, aimed at businesses and nonprofits hurt by Hurricanes Idalia, Helene and Milton. The county says it may fund loans or grants for recovery, workforce development, relocation and other work that keeps jobs in the county. Its own page puts the launch at October, so there is nothing to apply for yet and no award amounts published. Worth a call now if you want to be on the list: 727-228-4936 or [email protected].

The county is laying 12.79 miles of sidewalk around schools
Bay News 9 (Tampa)
Pasco is building 12.79 miles of new sidewalk around 19 schools this school year under its safe routes to schools program. Commissioner Seth Weightman says the county has pulled in more than $22 million in federal, state and Penny for Pasco money for the work since 2022. The county has not published which 19 schools are on the list.

Today is National Seat Check Saturday, which lands on the fourth Saturday of September, and Pasco County Fire Rescue is making the point that three out of four car seats are installed wrong. There is no drop-in event today. What the county does instead is run this year round by appointment: you can book a check or an install through the Car Seat Install Request form on the Fire Rescue page, or by calling 813-929-2750 or writing [email protected].

I Almost Threw Out My Keurig. It Wasn't Broken.
Every cup from my Keurig started tasting weak, flat, stale — so I unplugged it and stuck it in a closet. Then I learned the dirty secret of grocery store K-Cups: by the time a pod reaches your kitchen, it's usually spent months going from factory to warehouse to truck to shelf. The flavor oils are long gone. Some brands even over-roast to hide it.
The fix wasn't a new machine. It was fresh pods from Angelino's, a family-owned L.A. roastery that roasts, packs, and ships within 3–5 days — straight to your door, from 39¢ a cup. Over 1,000,000 happy customers. 50+ flavors, no subscription required, and 15% off your first order, applied automatically at checkout.
